WuXi Biologics

WuXi Biologics is a Chinese headquartered organization that provides open-access, integrated technology platforms for biologics drug development. WuXi Biologics’ roots date back to 2010 when it was established as a business unit of WuXi AppTec, began building out capabilities and facilities required for biologics discovery, development and GMP manufacturing. Since then, WuXi Biologics has focused on establishing state-of-the-art research and manufacturing facilities and building partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the space. WuXi Biologics ultimately spun out of WuXi AppTec in 2015 and two years later went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June of 2017. In April 2018, Wuxi biologics announced plans to build a new biologics drug substance manufacturing for 26 hectares in Dundalk, Ireland. The project is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland, and its cost will be about 394 million. After completion, the facility will be one of the largest installations for maintenance disposable bioreactors and will help to accelerate the development of biological products in Europe.

This facility was established in 2002 under the aegis of Department of Chemistry, IIT Delhi. It is recognized as a center of excellence in Bioinformatics by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

Electric organ (biology)

In biology, the electric organ is an organ common to all electric fish used for the purposes of creating an electric field. The electric organ is derived from modified nerve or muscle tissue. The electric discharge from this organ is used for navigation, communication, mating, defense and also sometimes for the incapacitation of prey.

Tagma (biology)

In biology, a tagma is a specialized grouping of multiple segments or metameres into a coherently functional morphological unit. Familiar examples are the head, the thorax, and the abdomen of insects. The segments within a tagma may be either fused or so jointed as to be independently moveable. Usually this term is usually attributed to tagmata in the morphology of the representatives of phylum Arthropoda, but it applies equally respectful to other types, such as chordates. In this taxon the names attributed to one or another tagmata in some sense informal and arbitrary, for example, not all the tagmata of species within a given subphylum of arthropods are homologous to those of species in other subphyla, on the one hand, they do not have the corresponding somites, and secondly, not all the tagmata closely similar functions and anatomy. In some cases this has led to earlier names for tagmata more or less successfully replaced. For example, one time the terms "cephalothorax" and "abdomen" of the Araneae although not strictly considered to be invalid, inferior and opisthosoma prosoma. The last two terms are less than the offer of homology with substantially different tagmata of insects.
