Fides quaerens intellectum

Fides quaerens intellectum means "faith seeking understanding" or "faith seeking understanding." This theological method was emphasized by Augustine and Anselm of Canterbury, in which one begins with faith and on the basis of faith goes to the understanding of Christian truth. Anselm uses this expression for the first time in his Proslogion. This reflects the close relationship between faith and human reason. This is the key to Anselms theological thought and philosophical thinking. It would understand everything in the faith. It means intellectually to understand what we already believe. Chronologically, Faith precedes understanding, as when young children first trust their parents and believe what they say, and it is only later, when they grow up what they want to study and understand the reality by themselves. According to Anselm of Canterbury: "Neque enim in quaero intelligere UT credam, SED credo ut intelligam".
