Homochirality

Homochirality is a uniform chirality, or arm. Objects are chiral when they cant be superimposed on their mirror images. For example, on the left and right human hands are approximately mirror images of each other, but not their own mirror, so they are chiral. In biology, 19 of the 20 natural amino acids homochiral, being l-chiral, while the sugar is D-chiral. Homochirality can also contact enantiomeric substances in which all the components are the same enantiomer, but some sources discourage the term.

It is unclear whether homochirality has a purpose, however, it seems that this form of information storage. One suggestion is that it reduces entropy barriers in the formation of large organized molecules. Experimentally, it was confirmed that amino acids form large aggregates in larger abundance from samples enantiomeric amino acids than racemic enantiomerically mixed.

Its not clear whether it came before or after the homochirality of life, and many of the mechanisms of its origin have been proposed. Some of these models propose three distinct steps: mirror-symmetry creates a minute enantiomeric imbalance, chiral amplification builds on this imbalance, and chiral transfer is the transfer of chirality from one molecule to another.
