ⓘ Petrology ..

Petrology is the branch of geology that studies rocks and the conditions under which they form. Petrology has three subdivisions: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary petrology. Igneous and metamorphic petrology are commonly taught together because they both contain heavy use of chemistry, chemical methods, and phase diagrams. Sedimentary petrology is, on the other hand, commonly taught together with stratigraphy because it deals with the processes that form sedimentary rock. Lithology was once approximately synonymous with petrography, but in current usage, lithology focuses on macroscop ...

Acidic rock

Acidic rock is rock that is either siliceous, having a high content of silica, or rock with a low pH. The two definitions are not equivalent, e.g., in the case of basalt, which is never high in pH, but is low in SiO 2. The term may be used in a third way, to refer to non-calcareous rocks, i.e., rocks testing negative for carbonate by not bubbling if a 10% solution of HCl is applied in a spot test.

Alginite is a component of some types of kerogen alongside amorphous organic matter. Alginite consists of organic-walled marine microfossils, distinct from inorganic -walled microfossils that comprise diatomaceous earth. Alginite is a complex soil aggregate of algae based biomass fossil, clay turned volcanic ash and calcium carbonate. This material contains a complete spectrum of minerals, biological, macro- and micro-organisms helping to turn lands fertile again in regions where soil has been severely degraded in the past. At least two forms of alginite are distinguishable, "alginite A" t ...

Andesite line

The andesite line is the most significant regional geologic distinction in the Pacific Ocean basin. It separates the mafic basaltic volcanic rocks of the Central Pacific Basin from the partially submerged continental areas of more felsic andesitic volcanic rock on its margins. The andesite line parallels the subduction zones and deep oceanic trenches around the Pacific basin. It is the surface expression of melting within and above the plunging subducting slab. It follows the western edge of the islands off California and passes south of the Aleutian Arc, along the eastern edge of the Kamc ...

Apollo 11 lunar sample display

The Apollo 11 lunar sample display is a commemorative podium style plaque display consisting of four rice-size dust particle specimens, the recipients flag and two small metal plates attached with descriptive messages. The Apollo 11 podium style commemorative wooden plaque displays were given out as gifts in 1970 by President Richard Nixon to 135 countries worldwide, the 50 states of the United States and its territories.

Apollo 17 lunar sample display

The Apollo 17 lunar sample display consists of a Moon rock fragment from a lava Moon stone identified as lunar basalt 70017, the recipients flag and two small metal plates attached with descriptive messages. A goodwill gift from the Apollo 17 mission was then given in the form of a wooden commemorative plaque display individually to all fifty states, five U.S. territories, and 135 nations worldwide.

Pino - logical board game which is based on tactics and strategy. In general this is a remix of chess, checkers and corners. The game develops imagination, concentration, teaches how to solve tasks, plan their own actions and of course to think logically.
